On March 5, 2008, Ms. Conlin’s troisieme English class participated in the Folger Secondary School Shakespeare Festival. After abridging the text of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, all nineteen members of the class participated in the 30 minute production. With a 1920’s theme, the cast members were decked out in flapper dresses, suits, and fedoras.
The cast received a standing ovation and four awards:
The Best Lovesick Lead Award - Lucas Napier MacDonald (Orlando)
The Larger than Life Award – Alain Kilajian (Silvius)
The Saucy Sweethearts Award – Sarah Essama (Audrey) and Julien Mark (Touchstone)
The Ms. Conlin Thinks All of You are Fantastic Award (the Entire Cast)
The students worked tirelessly during lunchtimes, Saturdays, and the February vacation to represent the Lycee Rochambeau at the prestigious Folger Shakespeare Festival. On the day of March 5, 2008, they not only performed their version of As You Like It, but they also had the opportunity to view seven other area school’s interpretations of Shakespeare’s plays including King Lear, Julius Caesar, Taming of the Shrew, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Othello.
