“A school community would not be able to live and evolve without space for communication and dialogue, where ideas and information are exchanged, where projects are developed, and the results of past decisions are checked, and commented upon.”

The school council and the council of the secondary cycle have this function; they play an essential part in the educational field, as well as in school life.

You will find below a description of these instances (number of meetings, parents attendance, duties…). In order to be fully operational, these councils require that all the community be represented, including the parents.

Conseil d’école

Context: Primary school, that is nursery and elementary school.
Chairmanship: The principal of the elementary school and the principal of the nursery school, alternately.
Selection: 17 voting members (the Principal of elementary school or the Principal of Nursery school and the 16 elected members) plus 3 members with a consultative role (the Head of School, the Business Manager and the Inspector of the Education Nationale in residence). 8 members of faculty designated by their teaching colleagues and 8 elected parents (8 permanents and 8 substitutes).
Periodicity: One meeting per term.
Length of mandate: One year.
Language used: French.
Role: Vote the rules and regulations within the elementary and nursery sections. Give its opinion on questions regarding life at school within the boundaries of the school project development. Make suggestions on the functioning of extra scholar activities (educational activities, school lunches…). This body is consulted on the financial, and material operations of the school, on its educational projects….

 

Conseil d’établissement

Context: The school as a whole that is to say from Nursery to High School.
Chairmanship: The Head of School.
Selection: 21 voting members (The Head of School, the Deputy, the Business Manager, the Principal Advisor of Education, the Cultural Attaché or his representative, and the elected members).
Elected members: 7 representatives of the teaching body, 5 parents, and 2 representatives of the student body.
Number of elected parents: 5 permanents and 5 substitutes.
Periodicity:  One meeting per term.
Language used: French.
Role: Vote the inner rules of the school, the school’s project development, the hours, the school calendar, the proposed list of positions for expatriate and local personnel. Give its opinion on question relating to the development of the pedagogical structure, class composition, school projects, on the functioning of extra scholars activities (school transportation, school lunches….).  Present the school’s adult training plan and the school budget.
