August/September Construction Update

The summer months were very productive on the construction site! Website pictures show the dramatic changes of the school's terrain. Sidewalks, curbs and gutters ring the enlarged central circle, new parking areas are paved in front of the administration building, excavation is complete and new grass seed has been laid. What was once dirt is now sprayed green straw and seed that should become grass in three weeks or so. The front temporary parking area was enlarged to make up for lost spaces due to the (almost complete) bus shelter.

All underground utility work is complete. At this time, the fire proofing throughout the building, exterior waterproof sheathing and three fourths of the brick and masonry work on the high school are complete; only the auditorium section remains to be completed and the masonry there is underway. The final layer of roof will be added starting Sept. 7and 8. The windows are being installed. Some will remain open for a while to move materials in and out.

I commend Coakley Williams in working with us closely to ensure that all details were attended to for the first day of school. The workers made intense efforts to have the site ready for the opening of school. They were successful; the first three days were really quite smooth.

During the month of September much of the work will be inside the building. Dry wall will be added to the metal frames that define the interior spaces. Cabinetry and finishes will be installed during September and October. We still expect to move furniture into the building during the October break and have it ready when students return. (Assuming no catastrophes slow down the work!)
