SAT Prep Course, Naviance, and Info for Rising Terminales

Summer is almost here! The following updates are mainly relevant to families of rising premières and terminales.

SAT Prep Course - Register Now

PrepMatters will offer a 13-week SAT prep course here at Rochambeau this fall, on Mondays at 5:45 to 7:15pm from September 12 to December 12. The course is open to secondes and premières. At least 15 students must register in order for the course to be held. Please submit the registration form to the receptionist in the administration building by Monday, August 1.

Although this deadline falls during the summer holiday, PrepMatters needs to have the guaranteed number of at least 15 students by this date in order to hold the class. Thus, it is very important that we receive your registration form and payment by August 1! If you will be away on holiday at that time, please mail your form and check to me (at the school) well in advance so it will arrive by the deadline. Or, if paying by credit card, email your completed form to me.

This course will be good practice for premières who plan to take their first SAT in January 2017. Secondes can get a head start on test preparation. A four-week Introduction to American-Style Standardized Tests course will be offered by PrepMatters in March for troisièmes and secondes. Registration information for that course will be distributed in the winter.

Naviance Family Connection for Rising Terminales and Premières

Rising terminales and premières and their families will eceive access to Naviance Family Connection, a comprehensive website you can use to plan for college and a career. Family Connection is linked with Naviance, a service we use to send application materials and track data about college plans. The site provides up-to-date information that is specific to our school.

Family Connection allows you to:

  • Build a resume, access college search and application resources, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers

  • Sign up for college visits. All students in quatrieme onward are invited to attend these visits from university representatives to learn more about different schools. Students should ask their teacher for permission to attend (if applicable). Most sessions are during lunchtime; students are welcome to bring their lunch.

  • Send requests for teacher recommendations (for terminales)

  • Research colleges and careers

In the coming days I’ll be distributing, by email, personalized access codes for each student and parent, and instructions for accessing Family Connection and creating your own account. Please watch your email for this information and be sure to register and create an account. (Students who participated in the essay-writing workshop last week have already gained access.) I send most communications to terminales and families directly through Naviance, so when you register be sure to use an email address that you check frequently. I hope you will find this resource helpful.

Mandatory Surveys for Première Students (rising Terminales)

Reminder: the questionnaire for counselor recommendation letters is due by the last day of school, June 23. Students should answer the questions and return to me by email. For college applications, recommendation letters are typically required from the counselor and two teachers. To help me write the best possible letter of support, I ask students to fill out the survey with thoughtful responses.

Wellesley College - Travel Grants Available

Wellesley, a top women’s liberal arts college in Massachusetts, encourages rising terminale girls to apply for a full travel grant to attend Discover Wellesley Weekend October 16-17. Travel grants, which cover all transportation, meals, and housing, are available for students who would otherwise be unable to pay for their travel. The priority application deadline is June 30; the final deadline is August 31.

If your student is interested, she should submit the travel grant application and email a copy of her unofficial transcript to

Summer Communication

I will be out of the office from June 25 until July 25. I will only be able to answer emails occasionally during this time and appreciate your patience.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a wonderful summer!
