Welcome TO College Counseling News
Terminale "To Do" in September
Welcome back to school! And, for new students, welcome to Rochambeau. Now that autumn is here, it’s time to start submitting university applications.
Check your Rochambeau email account regularly. I send lots of important information to your school email.
Come to the Terminale College Information Night with your parents on Wednesday, September 14, in the library at 6pm.
Review the Deadlines for Terminales. If you plan to apply Early Decision/Early Action to any universities, or to UK medical/vet/dentistry programs or Oxford/Cambridge, deadlines are coming up soon.
Keep in mind which duties are your responsibility (submitting applications, sending test scores, etc.). See page 1 of the Deadlines document.
Register for any standardized tests you still need (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, etc.)
When you’ve decided which schools you’ll apply to, turn in your University List to Mme. Bessaha.
You should already have requested recommendation letters from two teachers. If you haven’t, you must arrange for these as soon as possible. Recommendation letters are required by US and UK universities, and some Canadian and other universities.
If you haven’t already sent me your Questionnaire for Counselor Recommendation, it is now overdue! Please send me your responses as soon as possible.
If you haven’t already met with me in person to discuss your college plans, please contact me to set up an appointment. Getting to know you personally will help me help you!
I will be meeting with terminales on September 12 and/or 19 during the vie de classe. You’ll receive more information in the coming weeks. We also have lots of university representatives coming to visit Rochambeau this fall, usually during the lunch hour. Dates are announced in my regular emails and are also posted on my office door (room 226 in the administration building).
Check the Counseling bulletin board in the first-floor hall of the lycée, and this blog, for news and updates.
Remember, lots of reference documents and resources are stored in Naviance Family Connection. Parents and students received instructions and login information for Naviance in June; contact me if you cannot access the system (more information below).
Have a great first week back!
Naviance Family Connection is a comprehensive website students can use to plan for college and a career. If you haven’t already done so, please go to the website, click “I need to register” on the right-hand side, and create an account using the access codes below. Be sure to use an email address that you check frequently. Students and parents should have their own accounts; access codes were sent in June.
Family Connection is linked with Naviance, a service we use to send application materials and track data about college plans. Family Connection allows you to:
Build a resume, access college search and application resources, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers
Sign up for college visits. All students in quatrieme onward are invited to attend these visits from university representatives to learn more about different schools. Students should ask their teacher for permission to attend (if applicable). Most sessions are during lunchtime; students are welcome to bring their lunch.
Send requests for teacher recommendations (for terminales)
