Rochambeau, the French International School, has earned distinctive recognition as an AIMS accredited school following a voluntary, two-year self-study and peer review. Using a regionally established AIMS accreditation protocol every aspect of the school community is examined: 

• To assess compliance with rigorous AIMS and COMAR standards
• To identify strengths and address growth areas
• To set priorities for quality, best school practices, and
• To determine action plans for improvement.

Rochambeau, the French International School, self-study provides clear articulation of school mission and examines how that mission is embodied in all facets of school life. AIMS school accreditation provides a model that respects independence while acknowledging the need for accountability and a catalyst for ongoing improvement.

More than a checklist of compliance with standards, this process raises school-awareness and provides a planning document to guide the school in its future excellence and development. AIMS accreditation is not just an assurance of quality at-the-moment, but also a powerful vehicle for ongoing school improvement.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

AIMS, founded in 1967 and nationally accredited by ICAISA, is a 122 member association that believes the strength of independent schools flows from freedom to innovate, to fashion consistent programming based upon a clear philosophy and sense of mission, and to assemble a school community of young people and adults with a common purpose.

AIMS independent school accreditation holds schools to rigorous standards common to all member schools. AIMS enlists peers, experienced professionals from other independent schools, to participate in the evaluation process. A visiting committee comprised of faculty and administrators is recruited, trained, and sent by AIMS to observe and evaluate the school over a period of four days. The self-study, which the committee is charged to validate, serves as the text for the visit. The committee assesses how accurately the school has evaluated itself, how well the school follows its own mission, and suggests what actions for improvement should be given priority in a Visiting Committee Report. The school produces an Action Plan based on visiting committee recommendations within one year following the visit. Upon approval of an Action Plan the AIMS Board of Trustees votes on each school decennial AIMS accreditation.
