Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the contributions of this community to history, culture and society.
Why the month of May? It was selected to commemorate the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad, which relied primarily on Chinese laborers for its completion on May 10, 1869.
